It is a tradition that when a girl reaches teenage age, the women gather them around to teach them many things like how to handle yourself in front of an adult male or female. So here we see elderly women preparing for the ceremony. They’re helping each other to cook the food for the ceremony in their village in Zimbabwe’s Hwange District. What are they discussing? Most likely how to improve their livelihoods.
Each of our batiques have been uniquely created by local artists of Zimbabwe’s Hwange district. This batique has been created by Nozwelo Moyo, who is a member of the women’s cooperative in Zimbabwe. We are buying a selection of unique art from their cooperative and sell them to educate vulnerable school dropouts, many of whom are potential beneficiaries. With the sale they can feed their families and send their children and grandchildren to school.
All our proceed go directly into financing the education of empowermefirst Zimbabwe, which reaches the most vulnerable school dropouts like the women in this market. This sale pays for internet, solar panels, devices, and other infrastructure. empowermefirst.college is a global movement of volunteers who donate their time and knowledge to empower the youth.
